MD Imaging History

MD Imaging was founded by Dr. George Martin in 1951 on Market Street in downtown Redding, California. Dr. Martin was the first physician "specialist" to make his home in Redding. His specialty was in Diagnostic Radiology. Our original office was located at the corner of Market and Tehama Streets in the Guibbani Building. This building is currently known as Sherven Square. The practice was renamed Redding Radiological Associates after several other radiologists entered the group. From its beginning 50 years ago(over half a century ago) above a drug store on Market Street to the total renovation of the practice in 1994 and its new name of MD Imaging Inc. in 1996, we continue to make available the latest in 21st century medical imaging technology.

MD Imaging and Women's Imaging Center, a division of MD Imaging, has provided many medical "firsts" and continues to do so. In 1965, we were the first in the development of Nuclear Medicine and continue to do so with the opening of our latest division, MD Nuclear Imaging in 2002. MD Nuclear Imaging provides many nuclear medicine studies as well as PET (Positron Emission Tomography). PET is quickly becoming a major radiological modality used predominantly in finding cancer, neurologic conditions and cardiovascular disease. MD Nuclear Imaging has the only permanent, on-site PET scanner north of Sacramento.

Our Women's Imaging Center obtained one of the first of only 12 "Mammotest II Non-Surgical Breast Biopsy" machines approved for use in the United States. We were also the first to offer Digital Mammography in Northern California.

We brought the first Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to the north state in 1987 and installed a new OpenSpeed MRI in late April of 2003. We have 3 MRI suites which include Conventional, Short-bore and Open MRI.

As we move into the future, MD Imaging will continue to be dedicated to providing the finest care by combining the most caring, qualified staff with the most advanced technology.
